NORM CATHIE RESERVE

Public BBQ

Norm Cathie Reserve delivers a solid family day out, though it's not without its quirks. The reserve centres around a well-maintained footy oval with decent walking paths, while the real drawcard is the impressive new playground – all bright colours and modern equipment that keeps kids of various ages entertained. Free electric barbecues dot the grounds, though you'll want to give the hotplates a good scrub before firing them up. Picnic tables offer decent spots for lunch, and there's ample parking which is always a blessing. The facilities include clean public toilets, a practical touch for family outings. While there's plenty of open grass space for games, shade is disappointingly sparse on hot days. The grounds could use better maintenance – scattered broken glass requires watchful eyes, particularly with little ones about. Despite these minor gripes, it's a serviceable spot for a casual barbecue or letting the kids burn energy while you enjoy the suburban tranquillity.
